In the middle of July this year, Yonkers Producer and Emcee Dee Blaze the Pyro crafted an anthem called “Black Boy Joy“ with the help of D Swizz from Elmira and Lunaa Redd out of Brooklyn. The song in essence is exactly what the title implies, a celebratory statement of black pride for boys and girls of all ages.
A song that’s truly unifying and one that Blaze says is enjoyable by everyone; he goes on to say, “There are no curse words or sexually explicit language in this song so this is a song that the whole family can enjoy”.
Blaze and Dswizz got a rare chance to perform the track at Elmiras Juneteenth celebration in 2020 when performances were becoming digital due to covid-19 regulations and worries.
Only a few months after the release and the Pyro has brought us the remix. Just by viewing the cover art done by Robin Waters, a relative of Dee Blaze, you can visualize the message of the song before you even hear it. Astounding works of art being used as single and album covers is a technique growing ever more popular across the Upstate music scene, and Blaze was sure to make his represent unity and pride.
Bringing together four talented artists from across the country in Kayo Bracey from Greensboro, North Carolina; Crazy Karl from Ettrick, Virginia; Mason Parker out of Charlotte, North Carolina; as well as Timothy Mitchum hailing from Rochester, New York. Dee Blaze says,
“We currently live in an age where there is a great deal goin on. Black boys and black men all across the diaspora and world are doing their best to survive, thrive, and enjoy life”.
The Yonkers MC stated this is his second single off of his entirely self produced upcoming album By Any Beats Necessary. This is also the second anthem he’s made in recent memory with the first being “Killer Instinct“, a basketball themed, upbeat track that was submitted to 2K in an attempt to recieve a placement on the soundtrack for the game.
Considered a mentor by many in his second home of Elmira, Dee Blaze is known for working with the local youth and helping them to stay committed to their love for musical arts. He is a building block of Foundation Media Group a.k.a FMG, which was founded by the late Elmira legend The Grand Incredible DJ Brandnew. It is through all this work within the community that builds up his passion which causes his soul to pour into his work .
Drawing energy from his close relation to friends, family and community; the Pyro brings not only his brand of unique vocals and production but his attitude towards life. Believing in himself and his craft regardless of what others deem to be the common route is a quality that the greats possess.
On top of making his anthems Dee Blaze has also produced for amazing artists like Blicka Don, Cherp, Knoxxy, Jon Jon Da Don, and many more.
