Upstate artist Werd just released his debut album Werd Around Town on all major streaming services. Originally hailing from the bay area of northern California and moving to Upstate NY in 2015, Werd brings familiar vibes and gritty lyricism with a touch of west coast smoothness. He describes his sound as a mix of both influences.
“You can see in my music that I’ve been influenced by a lot of Bay Area, and New York rap”
The album is sure to give fans an opportunity to hear his range and ability to flow on a multitude of different beats. Werd Around Town has 16 tracks in total, all of which are fully mixed by Tee Melly , who is also one of only two features on the album alongside Anthony Kannon. It also features production from 10 different producers including Saint KID, Osiris, and ProducerJoey.
Werd Around Town has been almost a year in the making as visuals for the lead single “Comics & OJ ” as well as “Drip” were dropped back in January. These were followed up throughout the year by “Balance” in March, “King Kong” in May, and “Dubb’s Up” in August.
The visual for the Saint KID produced banger “King Kong” shot by LOPAT would become his most popular video on his YouTube, surpassing 30k views . The song would go on to earn some airtime on Shade 45 radio as well which according to Werd, “was a huge moment for me and my music.”
Ahead of the digital release Werd has also been selling physical CD’s of the Album for 10 dollars each. Being an entrepreneur comes with the territory of being an artist but it means something different to everyone to be able to recoup part of their investment while connecting with their fans.
“Artists get paid so little for the amount of work that we put in to make a project so it definitely helps having merch to sell and see an actual return on investment”
